I've seen what you describe in many older dogs perticularly Cocker Spaniel. I can not regular lotion or anything about them b / c that can burn. Vaseline was the first thing that came to mind. You can call your vet tomorrow and ask what they put on them. You should not want to see you or you, I do not think so.

My Akita has the same problem. The vet gave us a cream to put on, but lick it off. He continues, only to grow and in the fall. Otherwise healthy. I do not think this is anything to fear.

Hello, I really had my lab to the vet 4 days ago and for the same reason and said it is very common (my older dogs is 9) also said the petroleum jelly or other substance, the disease, if your dog licks may cause. I searched for the infection in May, but must do something. I hope to improve my dog has lost the top layer, and it seems a little better.

Vet - take him to a vet to see what it is - we can not simply stop getting worse.
